For the American cruise company Celebrity Cruises, 3deluxe developed the exterior design of the 100 metre expedition mega yacht 'Celebrity Flora'. The ship was specially designed for exclusive expeditions to the Galapagos Islands and is the most energy-efficient ship in this category in the region. Guests at the naming ceremony included Philippe Cousteau Jr., grandson of marine researcher Jaques Cousteau and Ecuadorian environmentalist and former president of the World Wildlife Fund International, Yolanda Kakabadse.
The volcanic originated Galapagos Islands are home to a unique flora and fauna with unprecedented diversity and numerous endemic animal and botanical species.
When designing the ‚Celebrity Flora‘ the highest maxim was granting a direct nature experience for the guests. Accordingly 3deluxe aligned the design to the outward. The suites are equipped with extensive floor-to-ceiling windows, all balconies have glass balustrades, and everywhere the sky, the ocean and flora and fauna are in close vicinity.
Moreover the protection of the sensitive ecosystem of the archipelago was decisive for the concept of the ship. According to the nature conservation regulations the ‚Celebrity Flora’ is not allowed to dock at the island beaches. The ship always remains in sufficient distance and disposes of a technology without anchor to hold its position in order to protect the seabed. The guests reach the scientifically guided excursions on the island several times a day by on-board Zodiacs. The openly designed rear with its Marina is the focus of the exterior design. Asymmetrical crossed terraces reaching up to the water surface characterize the distinctive back view of the ‚Celebrity Flora‘. From the private terraces and public decks the passengers can observe nature and what is going on in the rear. The beefy pulled up front with its vertical bug provides a powerful, robust presence.
The fact that expedition and luxurious, relaxed traveling is no contradiction is proven by the design and equipment of the public areas and suites, the culinary offers and many other comforts aboard. A special highlight are the two penthouse suites with oversize bathrooms, generous living space indoor-and outdoor and the panoramic windows with breathtaking 270 ° views of the whole rear of the ship.
The keel laying of the ‚Celebrity Flora‘ took place in December 2017.
