Official Element of the Artistic and Cultural Programme to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ of the German Government. Light object with info and play stations for an international tour through four participating countries.
The Football Globe Germany consists of a dynamically shaped white base that supports an eye-catching, illuminated sphere. Like its predecessor, the Football Globe – 2006 FIFA World Cup™, it is a metaphor for the enthusiasm for this sport that crosses continents and unites people.
The ball is made of transparent Plexiglas. An abstract world map is placed on the acrylic panes as a coordinating motif with the continents composed of ornamental white flowering shapes. Inside the sphere is an installation consisting of 510 cold-cathode tubes that are controlled individually by special software. This creates a large number of different lighting effects.
The base was shaped by hand to form an expressive sculpture of fibreglass laminate. It contains three media terminals. Two the touch screens provide visitors with information about the World Cup 2006.
The main attraction is the interactive "Corner Flag Dance". An actual corner flag is positioned in front of a third touch screen on a platform covered with artificial turf. Visitors are encouraged to perform their own personal corner-flag dance, which is captured on camera. The video is posted on the Internet and can be sent to friends as an e-card.
